One of Photo Retro's founding ideals is to keep alive the practice of photography from generations past. Portraiture has played a major part in the evolution of photography and many beautiful and fascinating examples can be found in every family's collection. For most of the history of photography, having your portrait taken was a special event with the results prominently displayed in the home.
Photo Retro offers portraits in the traditional style with you at the center of a photographic process and experience you won't soon forget. Your portrait is shot on film or glass with large format cameras in a studio setting that wouldn't have been out of place for most of the 20th Century. Film portrait sessions produce a negative from which the final print is developed in our darkroom. The result is a beautiful portrait with the characteristics and uniqueness of photography that most believe have been lost to time.
Unique to Photo Retro is the option of a black glass ambrotype portrait. Your portrait is captured and developed to a beautiful, one-of-a-kind image on black glass which cannot be easily copied. The size of the portrait is determined by the size of the camera itself. For example, an 8" x 10" portrait requires an 8" x 10" format camera. The black glass ambrotypes can then be mounted and framed.
